The roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is a small and graceful species of deer native to Europe and parts of Asia. Known for its elegant appearance, it has a reddish-brown coat in the summer that changes to a gray-brown shade in winter. Roe deer are relatively small compared to other deer species, with a shoulder height of about 60–75 cm (24–30 inches) and a weight range of 10–30 kg (22–66 pounds), with males (bucks) typically being larger than females (does).
Roe deer inhabit a range of environments, including woodlands, grasslands, and forest edges. They adapt well to areas with dense vegetation that provides ample cover. They’re found across much of Europe and western Asia, extending from southern Europe to Scandinavia and parts of the Middle East.
